The North Face reveals collaboration with Shantell Martin

VF Corp-owned outdoor brand The North Face has announced that it is teaming up with New York-based artist Shantell Martin for a collaborative collection that revisits the label’s archives.

 
Taking inspiration from The North Face’s search and rescue line, the collection features an original Martin print, which appears on key pieces, including the women’s search and rescue wind jacket, the Sherpa fleece and the ripstop wind pants. Other pieces in the collection, such as the men’s search and rescue hoodie, feature a yellow and black color blocking design. The collection’s offering is rounded out with bags and sneakers.
 
According to the brand, the collection is meant to symbolize “not only the importance of overcoming challenges, but humanity’s desire to connect, create community and yet still retain individuality.”

Known for her instantly recognizable black and white drawings, Martin is a multimedia artist who explores the themes of intersectionality, identity, and play in works which blur the boundaries between fine art, design, philosophy and technology.
 
The North Face’s collaboration with Martin is the latest in a long line of creative partnerships that has seen the outdoor brand join forces with the likes of Gucci, Supreme, Junya Watanabe and Brain Dead.
 
The collaboration's launch is promoted by a film that explores Martin's creative process as she completes a mural in her signature style.

“The North Face search and rescue archives provided a platform for me to examine what exploration means, not only for myself but for others who feel the need to connect both with nature and the world around them,” said the artist in a release. “I’m excited for everyone to see the work come to life!”

The collection is available now on The North Face’s e-commerce platform, as well as at selected retail partners.
