The Lexicon projects annual footfall of 16 million after strong trading

4.5 million people have visited the £240m Lexicon Bracknell since its opening in September and footfall has continued to rise steadily, increasing by 36.4% between its first full week of trading and the first week in December, it announced on Wednesday.

The multi-million retail and leisure town centre transformation in Berkshire welcomed 10,000 people through its doors on opening day, and visitor numbers rose by 7.3% during the October half term week.

Based on these results, the Lexicon is projecting an annual customer footfall of up to 16 million - almost four times more than the number of people visiting Bracknell town centre before the redevelopment.

Simon Russian, Head of Retail for Legal & General Investment Management at Real, said: “It’s encouraging that footfall has remained strong following the really successful opening week. It shows the benefits of well-planned urban regeneration, bringing jobs, customer choice and convenience, and local prosperity to the town.”

Feedback from brands has been positive, according to the shopping centre, and 83% of retailers feel optimistic about Christmas trading. Some of the brands with a presence at The Lexicon include Next, Office, Cath Kidston, Footlocker, Joules, H&M, River Island, Timberland and Seasalt.

Additionally, the mall has been recognised by the public as the ‘Best of the Best’ compared to any other new or regenerated retail property destination in the UK at the Revo Annual Dinner. And in research published in November, The Lexicon Bracknell was ranked 33rd top shopping destination in the UK, rising from its previous 255th position in 2017, according to Trevor Wood Associates.

Jessica Berney, Head of UK Retail at Schroder Real Estate, commented: “The Lexicon Bracknell is delighting customers, both residents within the affluent catchment and local workers. Combined with the existing Princess Square shopping centre, we have created a new social and cultural heart for the region. Bracknell is well on the way to becoming the shopping and leisure destination of choice in Berkshire.”

The 580,000 sq ft development, launched in 7 September 2017, features the first, new build, full line Fenwick to be opened in 14 years, as well as top brands including The Body Shop, Topshop, Beauty Base, Marks & Spencer and Pandora.
