She joins from shopping centre owner Intu Properties, where she held several positions, including Head Financial Investor and most recently Director of Finance. She was also a member of the Executive Committee of the £9.6bn retail and leisure property business.

At the Crown Estate, Bowyer will work together with Chief Executive Alison Nimmo and the wider Executive Committee to determine business strategies with the goal of driving long term growth.

Alison Nimmo, Chief Executive for The Crown Estate said: “We’re delighted to welcome Kate to our high performing team. Kate’s wealth of experience across the property and retail sector, alongside her impressive track record in financial management, will be invaluable to ensuring The Crown Estate remains a UK success story.”

The Crown Estate invests in and manages some of the UK’s most important assets. The portfolio includes flagship retail spaces and offices on Regent Street and nearly 50% of the buildings in St James’s.

Kate Bowyer said: “I’m very pleased to be joining The Crown Estate. It’s a business which sees the big picture and takes a long term approach to how it creates value across its core sectors to drive market outperformance and strong returns to the public finances.”

The appointment comes after the retirement of John Lelliott, who will be leaving after over 30 years with the business.
