The British Fashion Awards 2012 winners announced

The Oscars of the British fashion scene took place on Tuesday night at the Savoy Hotel in London. Stella McCartney was the night’s big winner, taking home the prize for Best Designer for her role in the creation of the British Olympic team’s uniforms. She also won the prestigious title of Best Designer Brand for her label, owned by French group PPR. Kim Jones won Best Menswear Designer for his work at Louis Vuitton.

Manolo Blahnik was awarded the prize for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Fashion’, with previous recipients being Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. A special honor was awarded to Chairman of the British Fashion Council, Harold Tillman, who will be ceding his position to Nathalie Massenet, Net-a-Porter founder, in January 2013. In terms of academics, Professor Louise Wilson, from the esteemed Central Saint Martins school in London won the Isabella Blow award for Fashion Creator, after seeing 17 years-worth of students go on to show at London Fashion Week. Former students include Christopher Kane, Mary Katranzou and Jonathan Saunders.

All British Fashion Awards 2012 Winners

Jonathan Saunders and J W Anderson were recognized as best Emerging Talent for men’s and women’s wear respectively, while Erdem took home the award for Best New Establishment. Roksanda Ilinicic won the Red Carpet Award for her colourful ensembles on the Red Carpet. British presenter and It-Girl Alexa Chung won the British Style Award and the Model of the Year award went to the ever-popular and playful Cara Delevingne, who shot to fame after a 2010 Burberry campaign.
