Telford Shopping Centre is building a multi-coloured dome completed with ‘smart’ glass technology as part of the ongoing redevelopment projects that are transforming the centre.

According to Shropshire Star, the smart glass will make the building change colour in the light, giving shoppers an interesting sight as innovative design elements become crucial in the fight for attracting more footfall.

The shopping centre is undergoing several redevelopments including the creation of a service area, a Fashion Quarter and a 70,000 sq ft Northern Quarter.

Glynn Morrow, centre manager, said work on the Northern Quarter development “is going very well and to programme”. The project will create up to seven new stores, a new entrance and a new tower, echoing the tower planned for the Southern Quarter.

Construction is also going on across the Fashion Quarter, where New Row and New Street are being redeveloped and extended. Fashion companies Next and New Look have signed up to upsize their presence at the redeveloped area, while House of Fraser will be retained as the anchor and Zara and River Island will remain as existing tenants.

The Fashion Quarter is expected to open in the autumn alongside the new bus station.

Meanwhile, work has finished in the Southern Quarter, which opened last year with TGI and Prezzo.
