Ted Baker plans online payment/ordering tech for UK, US stores

Published

Ted Baker is introducing a new payments service in its shops that it says will bring the in-store and online experience closer together. It’s using PayPal Here technology with customers able to order and securely pay for products that aren’t available in the store. They can then choose to have them delivered to their home or office, or pick them up via click & collect.

The company is piloting it in five of its London stores (Westfield, St Pancras, Regent Street, Covent Garden and Floral Street) and plans to roll it out across all of its British and US stores.

The app will be used on the tablet computers Ted Baker staff use in its stores and with staff essentially ordering on behalf of individual customers, the company said it allows them to make the whole shopping process more personalised.

Other benefits will include staff being able to help customers set up new Ted Baker accounts and also to make shopping faster as the PayPal Here card readers can be used anywhere within the store, avoiding cash desk queues.

The company said that with some stores, such as the new St Pancras branch, having limited storage facilities, the new service will widen the product offer available from smaller locations.

Ted Baker’s digital commerce director Craig Smith said: “We wanted a seamless way to sell products to customers that they couldn’t access in-store.”

He also said that the company is already seeing “great results from our teams in a short space of time.”
