TK Maxx to open at Queensgate shopping centre in 2021

Published
Jan 21, 2020

TK Maxx has taken a 37,500 sq ft unit at Queensgate shopping centre and is to open a new store in mid 2021, Lendlease and Invesco Real Estate, the global real estate investment manager, have announced.

Work on the new store will start in March. The layout will feature a flexible no-walls design to allow departments to expand and contract in line with the seasons. It will be located on the centre’s Upper Mall.

TK Maxx is the latest in a string of international and independent brands to join the Peterborough shopping centre.

Last year, John Lewis unveiled a new-look store, complete with a Style Studio, following a £21m refurbishment. Skechers, Swarovski, Deichmann and Disney also opened during the year, taking 16,196 sq ft of space.

And Queensgate is building a £60 million extension, anchored by a 10-screen Empire Cinema, that will provide a further 77,000 sq ft of prime retail and restaurant space. The extension is due to be completed by Autumn 2021.

Guy Thomas, head of retail at Lendlease, said: “This is an extremely exciting period for Queensgate, during which a significant investment is being made in the centre. Having new retailers signing up to join us is testament to our aim of successfully positioning Queensgate as the dominant retail space in its catchment area.

Launched in 1982, the shopping centre is home to over 90 retail outlets. The retail mix includes popular high street brands including M&S, New Look, Pandora, Joules and Primark.
