Sweden's Acne expands in New York

Sweden's Acne Studios continues to expand in the Big Apple, with a second New York store, Acne Studios Horatio Street, now open in the West Village.

The 120 m² store is located on 54-60 8th Avenue and was designed by architect Sophie Hicks. It's the third stand-alone store to feature Acne's new design concept, following the newly opened space on Berlin's Potsdamer Straße. Acne's new approach to stores is to open in neighbourhoods away from traditional retail districts.

"I have passed by this location many times while out walking in New York City. Unlike other corners of the West Village, it is not “quaint" in the tradition of the neighbourhood. Acne Studios Horatio Street is located in a large residential building, the space has a low ceiling, yet gives a generous and strong impression. With its illuminated walls, the stainless steel fit out, and the polished concrete floor, it almost feels more like Hong Kong than New York. The result is our interpretation of a local neighbourhood shop in the Acne Studios universe," said Mikael Schiller, Chairman Acne Studios.

Acne previously has a New York store on Greene Street in SoHo.
