OrganoClick, a Swedish cleantech company that develops, produces and markets functional materials based on environmentally friendly fiber chemistry, has presented a new fabric, OrganoTex.

OrganoTex was unveiled at the seminar "The world's most sustainable catwalk" in Sweden's Almedalen and is made from recycled polyester from 7-up bottles collected by the Buddhist charity organization Tzu Chi Foundation in Taiwan.

The fabric is water repellent but free from fluorocarbons, which are chemicals that are bio-accumulative and can cause cancer and are hormone disturbing.

“By using biodegradable and non-toxic chemistry in our products we can be sure that we don´t cause any environmental problems which the long-chain fluorocarbons do,” says Robin Grankvist, Business Area Manager for Performance textiles & nonwoven at OrganoClick.

The company first developed the technology in 2014 and OrganoClick has developed around 100 water repellent textiles since. Swedish fashion brand Filippa K used the technology in its collection shown in February 2015.
