Sweaty Betty closes all stores for two weeks

Sweaty Betty has said it is closing all retail stores and postponing events from 16-30 March because of the coronavirus.

The sportswear retailer added that all store teams will continue to be paid during the break.

It follows similar moves by fashion brands around the world, with Primark, Nike, Urban Outfitters, Levi Strauss and others shuttering vast parts of their global store estates in a bid to limit the spread of COVID-19.

In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday, Sweaty Betty said: “After careful consideration we feel it is in the best interest of our community to temporarily close our stores and postpone our store events for the next two weeks. Please rest assured our store teams will be given paid time off during this period.⁣⁣⁣

“Our online shop will be working hard to serve you 24/7 and we have just switched on free delivery [with] no minimum spend, starting today.⁣⁣⁣”

While the number of countries in lockdown continues to grow, including Italy, Spain and Germany, the UK government has taken a different approach, asking people to stop all unnecessary travel and work from home where they can. Many pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants remained open for business on Wednesday as the Prime Minister has not ordered closure of venues yet.

Sweaty Betty has 60 locations worldwide, including more 50 in the UK.
