Studio Retail MD Kendrick to become CEO when Maudsley leaves next year

Budget fashion and general merchandise retailer Studio Retail Group announced its CEO succession plans on Friday saying Paul Kendrick, currently an executive director of the company and MD of its main Studio Retail subsidiary, will take the helm next year.

Studio Retail

He’ll take over as CEO on the retirement of current CEO Phil Maudsley at the end of the financial year, on 26 March 2021.

The company said the succession plan has been worked on for the past two years and Maudsley will be fully involved with the transition during the remainder of this financial year.

His successor Kendrick joined the croup in May 2016 initially as commercial and deputy MD of Studio Retail Ltd before being promoted to MD in April 2017. He was appointed to the board at the end of last year and the company said he’s “played a key role in driving the business forwards and growing its online value offer”.

He has a strong track record in value-focused fashion retail and e-tail having previously been marketing and e-commerce director at Bonmarché. He also held various roles at Simply Be owner N Brown, including leading its marketing, financial services, international and group development functions.

Maudsley is to retire following more than 30 years with the company, having joined the group in 1987 as general manager of a manufacturing subsidiary. Since then he has held various roles including MD of the Home Shopping Division and of Express Gifts.
