Stories Behind Things adds new London event, plans European expansion

Published
Jul 13, 2018

Stories Behind Things, a female-led sustainable fashion collective, will be hosting a clothing swapping event at the Hoxton Hotel in Holborn this month and is looking to the concept to continental Europe.

This will be the fourth Big Clothes Switch event organised by fashion guru Jemma Finch and blogger, musician and activist Ella Grace Denton since 2017, when they first launched the sold-out format in Micks Garage in London.

The event aims takes thrifting to a new level by asking visitors to bring quality items from their wardrobe they no longer use. These are assessed on quality and traded in for a number of tokens, which can be used to shop other event-goers’ pre-loved clothing.

In addition to The Big Clothes Switch, Stories Behind Things hosts a range of community events such as coffee mornings in independent cafés, up-cycling workshops and talks about shopping consciously and ethical issues in the fashion industry.

Last year, Jemma Finch and Ella Grace Denton were included in a group of eight inspiring women in Wool and The Gang’s #Greengang campaign alongside Vivienne Westwood. They were selected for using their platform to drive real change within the fashion industry and championing new sustainable ways of consuming.
