Patankar joins the company from Groupon, where he served as vice president and CTO of Groupon Goods. Previously, he spent ten years with Amazon, serving in a variety of roles, including engineering and product leader, re-commerce; engineering leader, e-commerce platform; and engineering leader, transaction risk management.
"Having worked in the sector for the entirety of my career, I pay attention to exciting tech companies with opportunities for growth," Patankar said, in a statement given to multiple news sources.

"StockX is, without question, one that I've not only watched but have admired since its inception. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to join a talented team that is laser-focused on customer experience and innovation. I look forward to unlocking new ways for us to deliver on the promise of affording access to the products our buyers and sellers covet and would otherwise be unable to find."

Patankar is the latest addition to StockX's executive team, since the company appointed Deena Bahri as its first-ever chief marketing officer in September.

StockX, which reported that it surpassed $1 billion in GMV in 2019, continues to strengthen its company leadership while all signs point to a future IPO. In October, CEO Scott Cutler told CNBC's 'Mad Money' host, Jim Cramer, that taking StockX public is "certainly our objective as a company."

Cutler was named CEO in June 2019.
