St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff has launched a new initiative to support local retailers and entrepreneurs with an opportunity to open a pop-up store.

‘Made in Wales’ brands can apply from this week for a chance to win a store and six-month lease within the shopping destination. The winning brand will be selected by a panel from Landsec, the joint owners of St David’s, and receive access to the retail store from 1 October 2020 until 31 March 2021.

Russell Loveland, senior portfolio director for Landsec, said: “We wanted to find a way to support local businesses and the ‘Made in Wales’ initiative provides brands with a chance to build and grow.”

The project has been designed to offer an exciting opportunity for a local retail brand and is also being rolled out in two other shopping centres in Landsec’s portfolio in Bluewater, Kent and Trinity, Leeds.

Heinz Kloihofer, temporary lettings and commercial partnerships manager at Landsec, commented: “We have seen a very strong entrepreneurial spirit regionally and the ‘Made in Wales’ competition will not only provide the physical space but also the other important communication support; such as marketing, to give it the chance to succeed. We are very excited to see what entrants we receive in the coming weeks.”

Entries for the ‘Made in Wales’ competition close on 10 August.
