Nov 7, 2018
Shiseido is building an innovation centre in Yokohama, Japan, which will act both as a research facility and an experience-led beauty complex complete with a sports studio, beauty bar and museum.

The Japanese company said the centre, named Shiseido Global Innovation Center or ‘S/PARK’, will start research from mid-December this year. It is expected to be operating at full scale in April 2019.
The first two floors will be open to the public with a series of spaces, such as the S/Park Cafe, where guests can enjoy healthy meals inspired by beauty and wellness trends, an S/Park sports studio with workouts designed by the Shiseido Running Club and the S/Park Beauty Bar, which will offer guests the opportunity to create their own cosmetics based on Shiseido formulas. An S/Park Museum will showcase cutting-edge technologies from the brand.
Additionally, the Yokohoma facility will connect Shiseido’s innovation centres around the world to centralise their R&D activities. The cosmetics company has currently research centres in China, Thailand, USA and France, and its research efforts have helped it become an authority on skincare.
The company’s first testing laboratory, a product development and improvement facility, opened in 1916.
