Shaftesbury awards LCF bursaries

Published
Nov 19, 2015

Shaftesbury, the property development company that has properties in London's Carnaby Street area, among others, is continuing to support the London College of Fashion.

Shaftesbury has been working with the school in different ways since 2008, and this year it has awarded bursaries to three final year students studying BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring.

An industry panel including Hilary Riva OBE, Shaftesbury Non-Executive Director and former CEO of the British Fashion Council; Darla Gilroy, Programme Director for the Craft Programme at LCF; Mr John Hitchcock, Director and former Head Cutter of Anderson and Sheppard and Penny Thomas, Shaftesbury Company Secretary, chose to give bursaries to Kimberley Lawton, Tomas Cerniaukas and Jake Wigham.

They will receive bursaries to relieve some of the financial pressure and assist in funding their final year projects. Shaftesbury also sponsored the LCF Fashion Matters dinner.

Tomas Cerniaukas said, “If it wasn’t for my scholarship, I would never have the opportunity to use quality fabrics and trimmings for my final collection. It makes me look at everything more seriously and push myself harder because Shaftesbury offered me the scholarship."

Brian Bickell, Chief Executive of Shaftesbury, said, “The heritage of the areas we own very much colours their character today. Fashion is one of the key drivers of our villages and it’s the new interesting fashion concepts we choose, that make them unique. By investing and supporting organisations like London College of Fashion, UAL
we can help to ensure that talented students are free to create with some of the financial pressures alleviated.”
