Selfridges has inked a deal with flexible workspace company Fora to redevelop a 1950s building located on the corner of Duke Street and Oxford Street.

The plans involve creating 45,000 sq ft of office and retail space across the street from Selfridges’ Central London flagship store.

Architects Piercy&Co have been tasked with refurbishing and extending the property at 388-396 Oxford Street. The ground floor will remain as shops, with Selfridges expecting it to house up to four retail units. It was previously used by French Connection.

Meanwhile, Fora, which has ten offices in London, will take over the remaining floors to create a mix of shared and private workspace in the heart of London as well as two floors of event space.

The project is due to complete in August 2021, and marks Selfridges’ entry into a completely new area. In fact, several retailers are looking at new ways of using their commercial space, including Debenhams which last week received planning approval to transform two floors of its Oxford Street flagship store into office space.

The plans are also part of Selfridges’ bid to rejuvenate the area surrounding its Oxford Street store.
