Selfridges gears up for regional PR push as stores prepare to reopen
Selfridges has appointed a Manchester PR firm to handle publicity for its Birmingham branch as the company gets ready for its stores in England to reopen on April 12.
It has appointed Manchester-based company Carousel, which has a seven-year history of handling PR for the upscale retailer’s Manchester stores in Exchange Square and Trafford.
It's an important year for the Birmingham location not only because of the upcoming reopening, but also because of renovation work that’s refreshing its distinctive facade. This work comes ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 that should generate huge visitor traffic for the city and be a much-needed store traffic driver following footfall plunges in 2020 and so far in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The Birmingham branch’s general manager Sam Watson told The Business Desk that the store is preparing for some very big “events and moments”. And the appointment of Carousel will see Selfridges working with some new partners, forging strong links with creators and also with the community in the city as a whole.
Carousel is known for its ability to create very region-specific campaigns by working with local “content creators, tastemakers and independent local partners”.
