Scotch & Soda CEO Dirk-Jan Stoppelenburg to switch to chairman role

Published
Jan 21, 2019

Dirk-Jan Stoppelenburg, the CEO of contemporary fashion brand Scotch & Soda, is planning to step down as chief executive and take a new role as chairman of the board.

He will continue to lead the brand as CEO until a successor is appointed, Scotch & Soda announced on Monday.
Meanwhile, Michiel Witteveen, the current chairman of the label, will remain on the board as non-executive director.

Scotch & Soda has come a long way since launching in the Netherlands a as men’s wholesale brand in 1985. In the past five years under Stoppelenburg’s leadership, the label developed into an international business with a presence in over 70 countries, implemented a successful omnichannel strategy and expanded further in the Netherlands, Germany and the US.

Nearly 70% of its revenues are generated through its own distribution channels, and the result from its operating activities grew to €52 million in the last financial year.

Stoppelenburg will transition to chairman as more growth is expected this year. “I am very proud of the results we have delivered together in the past years,” he commented.

“Scotch & Soda is a fashion brand that conquers the world step by step. We now reap the benefits of the implementation our omnichannel strategy. I am looking forward to remain involved with the development of Scotch & Soda in my new role.”

Chairman Michiel Witteveen added: “Dirk-Jan has been instrumental in the growth and development of Scotch & Soda. His vision and drive make that we are where we now are. We owe him much gratitude for that. I look forward to the continuation of our excellent cooperation in the board.”
