As the upcoming New York Fashion Week in September approaches, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty and Amazon have announced that the lingerie brand’s Fall/Winter 2019 show will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
Instagram @badgalriri The brand’s second annual runway show will take place alongside NYFW: The Shows, which will run from September 5 through 12. Following the live event, the show will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, September 20. A specific date for the live show, however, has not been disclosed.
According to a press statement, the Savage x Fenty event will feature a combination of ‘music, fashion and culture,’ complete with special live performances from undisclosed musical artists.
“I couldn’t be more excited that everyone will have full access to The Savage X Fenty Show this year,” Rihanna said. “We are working on creating a bold, sexy, super energetic experience for our viewers.”
Produced by Endeavor Content and Amazon, the move adds a new layer of accessibility to the inclusive reputation of Savage x Fenty, whose premiere runway show during New York Fashion Week in September of 2018 featured a cast of size and racially diverse models, including a then-pregnant Slick Woods, and was live-streamed on YouTube.
Through the new deal with Amazon Prime Video, digital front-row seats to the upcoming Fall/Winter show will be available to viewers in over 200 countries and territories around the world. In addition to the runway event, Amazon said, the Amazon Prime Video special will also include behind-the-scenes content on the making of the show.
“The brand authentically reflects empowering statements of inclusivity, body positivity and fun,” added Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, Amazon’s in-house TV and film production and distribution subsidiary. “The Savage X Fenty Show promises to be a ground-breaking and truly unique experience and we’re thrilled to give our global customers an exclusive front row seat.”
Outside of the fashion world, Amazon Prime Video and Rihanna have previously worked together for the making of Guava Island; the Amazon Prime-exclusive musical film featuring the pop-star and entrepreneur, alongside fellow musical artist Donald Glover.
