Satoshi Kondo takes over from Yoshiyuki Miyamae as chief designer at Issey Miyake
Japanese label Issey Miyake announced on September 3 that Satoshi Kondo has become its new head designer. Kondo has taken over from previous creative head Yoshiyuki Miyamae.

Kondo graduated from Ueda Yasuko Fashion College in 2007 from its Fashion Creator Industry Masters course and won the Rooms award that same year at the SOEN Awards. Kondo cut his teeth in garment production under the guidance of Issey Miyake and as a member of the brand’s design studio. He will present his first collection as head designer of Issey Miyake on September 27 in Paris for the spring/ summer 2020 season.
The brand’s previous head designer, Miyamae, took up the role in 2011, making his debut with the label's spring/ summer 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week. Miyamae worked on the creation of a number of innovative textiles at the brand such as the stretch yarn “3D Steam Stretch” and the flexible “Dough Dough” textile. Miyamae will continue to work with the label, on new in-house projects and on research and development.
