The SMCP group has a new man in charge of legal affairs. The French fashion group has in fact recently announced the appointment of Erwan Le Meur as General Counsel. Le Meur will oversee the entire legal department for the group which operates the Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot brands.

The group explained that Le Meur’s remit includes legal compliance, governance, litigation and intellectual property rights. Erwan Le Meur, 45, has replaced Florence Lao, who joined the Parisian group in February 2017. He reports to the group’s CEO Daniel Lalonde.

Before joining the SMCP group, whose majority shareholder is the Chinese corporation Shandong Ruyi and which was listed on the stock exchange last October, Erwan Le Meur was in charge of legal affairs at Showroom Privé for two years. Before that, from 2009 to 2015, he worked for US e-tail giant Amazon, first in the Paris office and then in Seattle. Le Meur is a specialist in business law both in France and the USA, and also practised for eight years in the corporate department of legal firms Latham & Watkins and Debevoise & Plimpton, in Paris and New York.

In the 2017 financial year, the revenue of SMCP grew 16%, well above expectations, reaching €912 million. For 2018, the group is forecasting renewed growth, at a rate between 11 and 13%. This would enable SMCP to top the €1 billion revenue mark, notable thanks to the contribution of the Asian and above all the Chinese market.
