River Island names new head of menswear

Published

River Island, the British high street retail fashion brand, has tapped Adrian Arbuthnot from Indian fashion etailer Koovs to be its new head of menswear design.

River Island SS16 - River Island

The appointment is part of River Island's ongoing plans to expand its menswear category and grow its market share. Arbuthnot has been the menswear design manager at Koovs since October 2013, but River Island is not a new company for him - he was its senior menswear designer between 2001 and 2006. In his new role he replaces menswear designer director Sarah Turton, who left River Island in 2015.

Arbuthnot has also been a design director of ADA, a high street clothing supplier, as well as the menswear designer at Burton between 2006-2010. His first menswear collection for River Island will be for autumn/winter 2016.

Arbuthnot said: "I’m proud to be rejoining the team here at River Island and with the support of my design team I look forward to spearheading the continued advancement of our menswear relaunch strategy. Menswear is a huge focus area for River Island across the board. We’ll be refining our core product offering and exploring new creative territory to get the best possible balance of trend-led and staple menswear.”
