The activewear line contains 23 pieces and focuses on fusing fashion and functionality. It targets women who want to look great when working out, and pieces include crop tops, slim fit leggings, shorts, double layer vests, and key outerwear pieces from padded gilets and fleeces to hooded ponchos.

River Island said all the garments have been made to flatter the female figure, and have features including deep waistbands, ergonomically designed seaming, compact stretch and comfort fit fabrics. The retailer has used technical and constructed fabrics, reflective detailing, mesh panelling and functional features to give the clothes a "sports luxe" feel. RI Active's colour palette ranges from darker hues of black and khaki to flashes of neon yellow, and camouflage print adds an urban twist.

The line will be available in May and retail for £18-£38. It's the latest in a recent line of collections from high street retailers to focus on stylish sportswear. Danish fashion brand Y.A.S. just introduced its new athleisure brand Fit to Relax, while Topshop has teamed up with Beyoncé on the Ivy Park brand, a new activewear and athleisure brand.
