RetailTrust, the trade charity supporting the 4.5 million people working in retail, has named Chris Brook-Carter as its new chief executive.

He will replace Richard Boland, who is set to retire from his post at the end of April.

Brook-Carter is a widely respected figure in the retail sector, having led Retail Week as editor in chief and World Retail Congress as managing director for almost a decade. He has a wealth of experience in the fields of digital, communications and events.

Alistair McGeorge, chair of RetailTrust board of trustees and executive chairman of New Look, said: “We are pleased to have secured someone with such relevant understanding and knowledge of the future shape and needs of retailing and with the commitment and passion to drive forward the wellbeing strategy of the trust. I am sure you will all join me in welcoming Chris as a colleague.”

Chris Brook-Carter added: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining RetailTrust. I have admired the fantastic work of Richard and the team for many years and believe the services they provide have never been more essential. I very much look forward to working with all my new colleagues to ensure the trust remains at the heart of how retail excels in its commitments to the welfare of all involved in the sector.”

Established in 1832, the trust is one of the oldest charities in the UK. It aims to support retail employees and their families throughout their lives, from getting into retail all the way through to retirement.
