Reiss launches golf line as social sports face post-lockdown revival

Reiss, the mid-market fashion retailer in which Next now has a sizeable stake, is acknowledging the lockdown easing that's happening in the UK as it unveils a new golf collection.

Reiss

Reiss Golf came about after the company said it noticed its customers wearing the label on the golf course so it decided to launch a dedicated collection for the sport.

It's something that wouldn't have happened last year as even outdoor sports remind off the agenda due to lockdown. Back then, the company launched a loungewear collection that reflected customers’ priorities at the time.

Today, customers are prioritising happier times with a return to socialising, events and outdoor activities such as golf, as well as returning to offices – all of which should benefit the core Reiss offer.

The collection is “engineered for the movement and performance requirements of the sport” and is available in the brand’s stores, as well as online, with prices ranging from £70 up to £185.

The collection comes in a palette of neutrals, soft white and classic black. The company said designs take hints from the course style of golf icon Tiger Woods, although the brand's own "urban sensibility" comes into play with the turtleneck (a Reiss signature) introduced as an alternative to a traditional polo collar.

There are tapered silhouettes and modern touches as well as more typical sportswear detailing such as colour-blocking, quilted panelling and mixing of fabrics and texture. The materials used prioritise stretch, comfort, quick-dry properties and lightness for freedom of movement and breathability. Reiss is also using stretch Merino arms across the knitwear offer.
