Refinery29 launches loungewear line

Published
Mar 18, 2020

The novel coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak has caused many businesses to hit pause on new projects, but not at Refinery29, as the media company presses on with the debut of its new collection of loungewear, launched today.

Refinery29

Making its launch debut at Nordstrom, the collection includes a longline chemise, camisole, a woven robe and a pajama top and pant, available in several different prints. Retailing from $39 to $69, all of the collection's pieces are available in sizes XS to 4X.

"Your go-to WFH [Work From Home] attire has arrived," Refinery29 said via an Instagram post, announcing the collection.

"Our loungewear line started with a seed of desire from our audience (YOU!) who longed for stylish, functional pieces that could go anywhere or nowhere at all."

The loungewear collection is conveniently available via Nordstrom's online platform, as many retailers - including Nordstrom -- announce that they are temporarily closing their physical stores to help fight the coronavirus spread. Later this month, the collection will also launch online at Dillard's.

"We set out to make a tightly edited collection of chic, adaptable pieces that most women could wear — and feel amazing in — whether you were watching Netflix at home on a Friday or working in your studio," said Christene Barberich, R29 global editor-in-chief, in a post further promoting the collection on Refinery29.

"We intentionally chose fabrics that felt luxurious to the touch and fell on the body in a flattering way, so that even if you're actually 'lounging,' you can still feel pulled together and ready for anything."

Although the collection is appropriate, given the policy of social distancing being recommended by health officials in the fight against COVID-19, the post promoting the loungewear on Refinery29's Instagram saw a relatively low level of engagement, with only 1,398 likes and eight comments.

By comparison, the company's coronavirus-related posts, both before and after the loungewear post, have received tens of thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, as of this report.
