In Belfast, Primark will move its existing store into the vacant BHS unit, expanding its trading space at the centre by 75%. The new Primark store will feature 26,700 sq ft and will open in summer 2018.

Primark’s arrival at The Abbey Centre will follow the opening of a 42,000 sq ft full-range Next store, an extended and fully-refurbished Dunnes stores and the signing of New Look and Caffé Nero.

Primark has also agreed to take a 29,800 sq ft former BHS unit in Hasting’s Priory Meadow Shopping Centre. Work on the unit is planned to begin in spring 2018, with completion expected for summer 2018.

The letting brings the 290,000 sq ft centre to full occupancy. Other retailers at Priory Meadow include H&M, Topshop, M&S, River Island and New Look.

Stuart Mitchell, Director at NewRiver, said: “We are delighted to secure both deals with Primark, one of Europe’s leading retail operators. We have worked closely with Primark and to have them expand into our portfolio demonstrates the calibre of our assets and their locations, helping Primark fulfil expansion into their target catchments.

“The centre being fully let reinforces Priory Meadow’s reputation as a key south coast destination for retailers, and gives our 8.5m annual shoppers to the centre a full and varied shopping experience.”

Primark has been in expansion mode of late, announcing new stores at out-of-town shopping centre Bluewater in Kent, Birmingham’s Pavilions and Milton Keynes’ Centre: MK in addition to the new Hastings and Belfast locations. All new stores are due to open next year and in 2019.
