Primark has announced the appointment of former Zara executive Paula Dumont Lopez as its new head of womenswear. Dumont Lopez was most recently due to become New Look’s new creative chief, before the clothing retailer cancelled her appointment in a shock move in September.

She is expected to join Primark this month, and will help the Irish clothing chain boost its international growth.

Dumont Lopez was previously senior vice president, head of womenswear at fashion brand Esprit. She was poached by New Look in June last year, but the company announced in September it would not go forward with her appointment after chief executive Anders Kristiansen suddenly resigned following a profit warning.

The executive cut her teeth at Zara owner Inditex, where she spent 10 years rising from a buyer role to head of product of Zara Basic.
