Primark-Greggs in fast-fashion, fast-food collab

It’s not a test run for April’s Fool’s Day. High street success stories Primark and Greggs have collaborated to create a fast-fashion-meets-fast-food clothing line.

And the thinking behind the unusual link becomes clear with news the baked goods producer/retailer is to open a 130-seater café called ‘Tasty by Greggs’ in Primark's flagship Birmingham store.

Celebrating the impending opening the pair are introducing a limited-edition, 11-piece collection that will be available in 60 Primark stores from 19 February.

And it doesn’t end there. Greggs and Primark will also open a pop-up boutique in London’s Soho on 17-18 February to “offer eager fashionistas the chance to get their hands on some of the new collection before the rest of the nation”. Two pieces of the collection will be available for free to those who secure a slot when bookings open on 10 February.

Further details of what will be included in the clothing range will be shown nearer the launch date, but images of a hoodie featuring the Greggs logo and the message 'It's a pastry thing’ written along one arm, have been released so far.

A launch video also promised: “One does tidy food, one does tidy fashion. Together we’re unstoppable.”

Tim Kelly, the director of new business development at Primark, said the retailer was looking to team with brands “we know [our customers] love” on clothing ranges and in-store experiences.

Raymond Reynolds, the Greggs business development director, added that customers had “continually asked” for Greggs branded clothing. “Fans can quite literally show their love for Greggs on their sleeves,” he said.
