PrettyLittleThing to launch resale marketplace

Published
Feb 16, 2022

Fast-fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing (PLT) is venturing into the resale market launching an online platform that will allow users to sell pre-loved items, irrespective of brand.

Reports said the marketplace’s app, which will adopt a similar model to Depop, will make its UK debut in May before being rolled out in the US in H2.

PLT’s version will allow users to sell and buy not just own-brand pre-worn items, but second-hand items from any brand. For PLT items, when a user is reselling an item, all the info and images of the product will be automatically pulled.

The seller will be able to ship any product nationally or internationally and the seller and buyer will be able to chat directly within the app.

It’s being fronted by PLT creative director Molly-Mae Hague, the former Love Island contestant who was appointed to the year-long post last August. Hague is launching her new PrettyLittleThing x Molly-Mae collection at London Fashion Week on Wednesday.

Her new collection will feature more quality, “elevated” pieces that she hopes will encourage shoppers to hold onto garments for longer and help PLT shake free of its reputation as a throwaway fast-fashion brand.

The new collection and the resale platform’s launch are both part of PLT parent Boohoo Group’s steps to improve its approach to sustainability and ethical trading.

The group introduced its first sustainability plan last year and talked of launching both resale and recycling offers across its brands by 2023.

By adding a resale option to the PLT offer, the company will tap into the huge market carved out by Depop, the Gen Z-focused platform that itself features more than 100,000 PLT items.
