PrettyLittleThing has submitted a planning application to expand its existing headquarters in Manchester in a move that puts its previous plans of relocating into new premises into question.

The fast fashion retailer wants to build a 9,500 sq ft extension at its Wellington Mill headquarters in Manchester. The project could accommodate around 200 additional staff, reported Place North West which had access to the planning documents.

Located in Ancoats, Wellington Mill is very close to the industrial site that PrettyLittleThing is planning to convert into its new headquarters. The proposed conversion of the former warehouse in Ancoats Works was given the go-ahead in March, with architecture studio Jenkins Design Services appointed to refurbish the place.

It is understood that the extension of Wellington Mill will address an immediate need for space while the brand reviews its plans to relocate.

Ancoats Works is owned by Kamani Property Group, a holding company controlled by Boohoo co-founder Mahmud Kamani.

In addition to PrettyLittleThing, Boohoo’s portfolio includes Boohoo Man, Nasty Gal and MissPap - all fast fashion brands targeting young trend-driven consumers. The group has found itself at the centre of a controversy of late after a report from a workers’ rights organisation exposed poor working conditions at one of its suppliers in Leicester.
