Prada committed to sustainable development

Published

After Kering and LVMH, it's Prada's turn to step up to the plate on the highly topical issue of sustainable development.

On Monday 14th December, during a round-table conference held at the Prada Foundation in Milan, the Italian luxury group led by Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada disclosed its Corporate Social Responsibility project.

Prada homepage dedicated to sustainable development - Groupe Prada

It was the opportunity for the group, which owns the Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, Car Shoe and Pasticceria Marchesi brands, generating €3.55 billion in revenue, to launch the csr.pradagroup.com website, through which Prada intends to present its reflections and initiatives on the issue of sustainable development.

The portal is divided between three main sections: know-how, places and culture. Prada tackles the issue of the group's social commitment on all levels: personnel, working conditions, facilities, suppliers, the impact of manufacturing on the environment, culture, etc.

Unlike Kering with its environmental performance review, Prada is not able to quantify and track all the elements that contribute to shaping a sustainable development methodology. Rather, the Italian group focuses on the values and philosophy that govern all the aspects of its business.

"The guiding principles that have always inspired the Prada group are beauty, creativity and the quest for excellence: nature and humanity are the pillars of these principles," explained Carlo Mazzi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in a press release.

The website enables Prada to communicate the contents of this initiative, considered to be a major bolster for "the dissemination of practices and values throughout our value chain and among our shareholders."

Prada is yet to present a true environmental performance review, but would like to do so next year. The website, however, also features a report on the group's social responsibility commitment for 2013 and 2014.
