Poundland to reopen some stores next week

Discount chain Poundland is preparing to open 36 stores across the UK next week as the country starts to show signs of gradual return to normality.

The retailer has continued to trade from most stores during the lockdown, however around one in nine of its UK portfolio closed in March in line with the Government’s guidance.

The 36 stores earmarked for reopening are either close to another Poundland or in a shopping centre.

“Robust” health and safety measures have been implemented to protect store staff and visitors, including marshals at the door to limit the number of people in store at any one time, floor markers and screens at checkout counters.

Poundland retail director Austin Cooke said: “We’ve never been prouder of our role as a retailer at the heart of communities and high streets.

“While safety has to come first, we’re delighted to be able to begin reopening hibernating Poundland stores to fully serve those communities across the UK with the essentials they need.”

Many of the stores that are reopening next Monday sell the Pep&Co clothing range or a feature a Pep&Co shop-in-shop. The complete list of stores includes Ayr Central Shopping Centre, Basildon Eastgate Shopping Centre, Belfast Castlecourt Shopping Centre NI, Bootle, Bradford Westfield Shopping Centre, Chatham Pentagon Shopping Centre, Colchester St Johns Shopping Centre, Cork Merchant Quay Centre ROI (Dealz), Doncaster Wheatley Retail Park, Dublin Mary Street ROI (Dealz), Eastleigh Swan Shopping Centre, Enniskillen Erneside Shopping Centre NI, Gateshead Metro Centre, Great Yarmouth Regent Road and Harrogate.

The following shops are also opening their doors next week: Harrow St Anns Road, Ipswich 26 Carr Street, Kendal, Kingston upon Thames Wheatfield Way, Lakeside Thurrock, Lowestoft Britten Shopping Centre, Maidstone Chequers Shopping Centre, Mansfield Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Milton Keynes Centre, Mullingar Fairgreen Centre ROI (Dealz), Newport Gwent Kingsway Centre, Newry Buttercrane Shopping Centre NI, Newry Quays Shopping Centre NI, Northampton Gold Street, Norwich Castle Mall, Romford Brewery Retail Park, Shrewsbury, Southend Royals Shopping Centre, Sunderland High Street West, Waltham Abbey Retail Park, Wembley 492 High Road.
