Online resale marketplace Poshmark has announced the addition of businesswoman, fashion icon and tennis champion, Serena Williams, to its board of directors, where she will help guide the company.

While Williams has already cemented her status within the fashion industry as a Met Gala host and muse to Virgil Abloh, this also isn't her first time being directly involved in the business side of the industry. The athlete and entrepreneur launched her own eponymous clothing line last year, and according to a press statement, "has been an advisor and investor in companies for many years," being particularly "passionate about empowering businesses owned and run by women and minorities."

"Poshmark was built by a community of strong, independent women just like Serena Williams," explained Manish Chandra, Poshmark's founder and CEO. "As both our company and community continue to grow, it's important that we bring smart and diverse new voices to the table, and we couldn't be more thrilled about what the future holds with Serena in our corner."

To coincide with her appointment to Poshmark's board, clothing worn by Williams will now be up for sale in her Posh Closet for Charity, which features pieces like a floral kimono worn to the 2017 French Open, dresses worn on the red carpet and a custom-made Gucci jacket.

Proceeds will be donated to the Yetunde Price Resource Center, a non-profit organization founded by Williams which offers trauma-informed programs that promote individual and community-wide healing and resiliency.

According to Poshmark, its platform has built a community of 40 million people in 80 percent of the country's zip codes, and has distributed over $1 billion to its community of sellers.

Serena's new role at Poshmark isn't the only development in the fashion world for the Williams family in the past few months: in December of last year, sister and fellow tennis star and entrepreneur Venus Williams officially joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
