The building is being redeveloped into a retail and leisure hub with original fixtures and fittings giving it an edgy industrial feel.

Turbine Hall A, which was built in the 1930s and evokes the lavish Art Deco glamour of its era, will focus on premium brands while Turbine Hall B, completed in the 1950s, will bring together contemporary brands providing an eclectic mix of younger, faster and more diverse names. According to media reports, Turbine Hall B has already attracted great interest from Korean and Japanese fashion brands.

More than 100 units will be created in total, including a range of cafés, restaurants and drink operators. The 42 acre site will also have a 35,000 sq ft food hall to complement the shopping experience.

“We are creating something very special here that will stand alone in the retail world. We will be giving consumers access to both well-known brands, who will be offering something different to what they have elsewhere, as well as great start-ups from Britain and around the world,” commented Sam Cotton, Retail Leasing Director at Battersea Power Station Development Company.

“The response we have already had from businesses has been incredible and as we are handpicking every single retailer, this is going to be a fantastic place for both retailers and consumers. We are scouring the globe, not only for the best retailers but also looking at how we can provide a platform for the wider evolution of retail.”

The Northern Line is being extended to give the Power Station is own Zone 1 tube station ahead of the site’s opening in 2020.
