Phillip Lim celebrates first London store

New York-based designer Phillip Lim has opened his first retail store on British soil with a 3.1 Phillip Lim boutique in London’s affluent South Kensington area.

Located at 9 Pelham Street, the store measures 3,200-square-foot and carries the designer’s ready-to-wear women’s and men’s collections as well as accessories. Opened as part of a long-term partnership with retailing group Club 21 UK, the store marks the first step in the label’s UK retail project, which should also see a second store opening in the city later next year.

“London has always been so welcoming to us,” said Wen Zhou, chief executive officer and cofounder of 3.1 Philllip Lim, noting that the label has taken a cautious approach to expanding into the U.K. “We have waited it out and chosen our partner wisely….We want to make sure we are in the right locations with the right message at the right time, and Club 21 are really on board with helping us to do this,” she said.

Earlier this week the designer himself was in Beijing to celebrate the opening of his first Chinese store, located in the Sanlitun Village compound. A second 3.1 store is set to open in Shanghai shortly.
