Petit Bateau strengthens its second-hand offer to be launched in Europe

The French brand Petit Bateau hopes that by 2030, one in three products sold be second-hand or rental. After having taken its first steps in clothing rental last November, the brand is now strengthening its position in second-hand clothing.

Petit Bateau

Since 2017, Petit Bateau has offered second-hand clothes for sale on its mobile app, and in 2021 it started collecting pre-owned clothes in its stores (22 Petit Bateau stores now offer this service). Now, the children's label is launching a "second-hand" corner on its e-shop. The customer can thus purchase new and pre-loved clothing in one single order.

"We want to be the most sustainable and inspiring brand for children. That's why we're accelerating our second-hand business. And we can do this because we are confident in the quality of our products. We believe that our bodysuits can have five lives, i.e. be worn by five children," explains Guillaume Darrousez, the president of Petit Bateau.

Already tested in Japan, its second largest market, the second-hand offer will be launched during the year in Italy, Germany and Belgium.

Petit Bateau, which has already collected 160,000 pieces, has 400 shops, 177 of which are in France. By 2021, the brand had recorded a turnover of 276 million euros.
