Family-owned footwear business Pavers has launched its own charitable trust, which will support two major charities a year, starting with the Macmillan Race Day at York.

The company donated £2.5m and its founder Catherine Paver’s private estate to establish the Pavers Foundation and said it will donate a further 2% of net profit each year to support worthy causes.

In addition to two major charities, it plans to provide funding for smaller charities and initiatives put forward by any one of our 1700 employees.

Managing director Stuart Paver said: “As a family, we wanted to share our success by helping causes that are personal to us, as well as those that matter to our colleagues, who work so hard every day.

“Everyone at Pavers will be able to vote for which major charities we support each year, as well as being able to submit funds applications for any local charity or initiative that means something to them.”

Pavers is a growing footwear company, with its most recent accounts showing pre-tax profits of £8.2m on revenues of £83m. It has recently acquired Devon-based high-end shoe retailer Herring and Jones Bootmaker.

It was founded in 1971 by Catherine Paver, who attended the York Raceday fundraising event organised by Macmillan Cancer Support in June. “It seemed absolutely fitting to celebrate The Pavers Foundation launch, not only by sponsoring a worthwhile cause close our hearts, but also at York Races, which my mother attended many a time.”
