Paul & Shark names Roberto Mancini as latest brand ambassador

Published

Paul & Shark has named Roberto Mancini, the current coach of the Italian national football team, to be its latest brand ambassador.

Mancini, who during his career was one of the most technically gifted football players on the planet, joins Antonio Giovinazzi, the Alfa Romeo F1 driver, as the marque’s latest style plenipotentiary.

“My meeting with Paul & Shark was a meeting with a very Italian and very international company with which I immediately found myself in tune. We have the same values: respect for nature and people, elegance, beauty, the importance of fashion that’s made in Italy. Love for adventure,” explained Mancini.

Based in Varese, the hometown of Missoni located in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, Paul & Shark is known for its natty nautical style. Its founder Paulo Dini, the son of a wealthy fabric mill owner, discovered the name Paul & Shark on the sail of an 18th-century clipper that he chanced upon in a workshop in Maine.

“More than a collaboration, it’s a meeting of people who share the same values and the same interests: the sea, the mountains, sports, adventure, and environmental protection,” said the brand in a release.

For their debut together, Mancini appears attired in a series of looks including sea-foam green techy Econyl jerkins or organic cotton yachting jerseys from Paul & Shark, the definition of Mediterranean nautical preppy.

A celebrated dresser, known to wear the scarves of whatever club he manages, Mancini also dons the brand’s signature rough weather Typhoon jacket.

“As a sportsman I find in the Paul & Shark collection light, resistant and breathable technical materials, materials that are normal today but would have been science fiction only 20 years ago,” the football ace added.

Paul & Shark are planning a series of collab capsule collections with Mancini, a frequent presence in the “best-dressed men” rankings.

Blessed with the deftest of left feet, Mancini made his Serie A debut at the age of 16 for Bologna; before going onto become Sampdoria’s greatest ever player – leading the Genovese side to their only Serie A title, and three Cups of Italy.

In a storied career as a player, Mancini won two Italian league titles; six Italian Cups and two UEFA Cup Winners' Cups. He scored more than 200 career goals and represented Italy 36 times, scoring four goals and winning the bronze medal at the 1990 World Cup.

After hanging up his boots in 2001, he embarked on an equally illustrious managerial career with Fiorentina, Lazio, Inter, Manchester City, Zenit and Galatasaray, leading them to win three Scudetti; four Italian Cups; two Italian Super Cups; one English Premier League Championship; one FA Cup; one Community Shield and one Cup of Turkey.

Before taking over as manager of Italy, where his team immediately established a national record of 11 consecutive victories. Known as a supremely gifted player and a classic Number 10 blessed with flair, dribbling skills and passing vision, Mancini is also a volatile figure, and a vocal presence on any football field.
