Paul Smith’s longstanding tailoring partnership with English Premiership football club Manchester United not only continues into another new season, but has been reimagined.

Paul Smith for Manchester United

The player wardrobe offer for SS22 has an updated tailoring style “that fuses a relaxed sportswear inspired fit with a traditional suit”.

In addition, the UK fashion house will team up with the club’s charitable arm Manchester United Foundation with a project to support young people entering the workforce.

To reflect the ever-evolving tailoring landscape", Paul Smith has fitted Manchester United players, coaches and team training staff “with a fresh take on the relaxed suit” for SS22.

It comprises a classic canvas jacket in lightweight, breathable construction and a pair of drawstring tailored trousers, while the suit retains “Paul Smith’s signature sense of contemporary refinement while focusing on the comfort of the players”.

As part of the house’s efforts to reimagine and modernise the partnership while mirroring the aims of Paul Smith’s Foundation, the designer’s tie-up with the Foundation will see it offer and fit 25 suits for young men and women pursuing apprenticeships with the club, across disciplines as varied as hospitality to operations. The suits will be tailored to each recipient’s specific requirements and measurements in the Paul Smith Manchester shop.

“Manchester’s community is at the heart of this new initiative and, as such, Paul Smith is proud to offer a traineeship in the Manchester shop as part of the programme. Alongside this, the company will also support the city’s local youth by organising and hosting wider workshops for young people preparing to embark on their career, with the goal of offering them advice and skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

The sportswear-inspired tailoring pieces are now available on the Paul Smith website.
