The hustle and bustle of London's busy Oxford Street can sometimes be tiring, so UK shoppers will be happy to hear that this year's Christmas light switch-on will take place on a traffic-free Sunday.

The switch-on is hosted by jewellery brand Pandora and radio station Capital, and will be held on November 1. Also new for this year is 445 golden baubles that will be strung between the silver lights, which will decorate the entire length of Oxford Street.

Steven Medway, MD of Trading Environment at New West End Company, the event organisers, says: “Oxford Street’s light switch on is world famous, and we are delighted to produce the first ever traffic-free Sunday lights switch-on moment. As the most anticipated Christmas event of the year we encourage families and shoppers to get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy both the tranquil traffic free Sunday followed by the spectacular lights switch on moment.”

The lights are usually turned on by popstars, but it hasn't yet been announced who will get the honour this year.
