Oliver Sweeney festive sales soar, clothing is strong

Published

January may be all about the clearance sales for retailers, but for journalists tracking those companies, it’s all about Christmas trading statements. They’ve been coming thick and fast and the latest major name to release one was Oliver Sweeney, which reported a strong season on Tuesday.

The company also said that following the restructure of the business to focus on digital and wholesale three years ago, it saw “another year of strong sales and continued growth” across the whole of 2022.

And the 12 weeks leading up to 26 December saw a trading performance 32% up on the same period in 2021 and a massive 69% higher than the equivalent period in 2020.

The company added that clothing sales have seen 80% growth and active customers increased by 25%, despite it being less promotional and in what was undeniably a challenging retail environment.

CEO Tim Cooper said: “I am delighted with our continuing strong performance. Our ethos to produce products of exceptional quality, that will stand the test of time, resonates well with our customer base.”
