Nordstrom cuts Ivanka Trump line

Nordstrom announced in a statement on Thursday that it would not stock Ivanka Trump’s line, citing poor sales performance.

The Seattle-based retailer stated that they will be discontinuing the line for the upcoming season, emphasising that their product range is routinely reassessed.

'Reviewing [the products'] merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season,' a spokesperson for Nordstrom said.

Nordstrom has stocked the brand since 2011, but has recently been under increasing pressure to drop the Ivanka Trump label amid boycott threats such as ‘#GrabYourWallet,’ a campaign organised by an anti-Trump activist group.

Nordstrom has in the past refuted accusations of taking a political position by stocking the brand, and repeated on Twitter on Friday that the decision to retire the collection was also not a political one.

The retailer stated on Twitter that the remaining brand inventory would continue to be sold off.

Canadian retailer Shoes.com was the first retailer to drop the Ivanka Trump label, followed by Nordstrom. In 2015, Macy's took the decision to phase out Donald Trump's menswear line, after remarks made by the then-businessman 'which [were] inconsistent with Macy’s values.'
