NJAL announces partnership with textile manufacturer Alcantara

Published
Jun 23, 2016

London's Not Just A Label platform has teamed up with Italian luxury material manufacturing company Alcantara on an exciting new design project.

The final designs will be exhibited in London in July - Not Just A Label website

10 NJAL designers will be invited to visit Alcantara’s factory in Umbria, Italy to learn about the production process and properties of its patented material, which will be used to create unique designs.

Developed in early 1970s by Miyoshi Okamoto, Alcantara® is a tech material obtained by combining an advanced spinning process with textile and chemical processes. The covering material is mostly used in the automobile, aircraft and electronic industries.

Although the Italian company has collaborated with fashion brands in the past, the use of its material remains largely rare in the fashion industry.

This partnership aims to find further applications for the material, which is said the be sustainable, durable, soft and light.

The designs made using Alcantara will be displayed at an exhibition at the Protein Gallery in London from the July 12-20.
