Next to return to Gloucester Quays

Published
Mar 10, 2023

In an interesting development, Peel L&P has announced that Next is to make its return to Gloucester Quays, the outlet and dining destination in the South West of England.

Gloucester Quays

The retailer exited the centre back in spring 2019, but will reopen there later this spring with the mall, having seen a record-breaking year for sales in 2022.

The Gloucester Quays outlet store will work in conjunction with the full-price store at the adjacent Gloucester Retail Park.

It's just the latest example of a major-name retailer returning to physical locations after having either exited specific malls or having shut down physical stores in general.

Jigsaw, Monsoon and Quiz have both signalled store opening strategies in recent periods after having earlier closed a raft of stores, and only this week Sephora reopened a store in the UK following an earlier retreat from the market.

Physical stores in key locations are enjoying the kind of revival post-pandemic that some had doubted would happen, and outlet malls in particular are thriving.

Next is set to open opposite M&S Outlet in a 10,441 sq ft space, featuring its clearance collections across women’s, men’s, and children’s fashion.

Homewares, beauty products, and its range of footwear will also be on offer. The selection will include its own labels and a number of other brands.

The multinational British retailer has over 700 stores worldwide, and the news of its return to Gloucester Quays follows recent announcements that the company is seeking to boost the sale of third-party fashion brands.

Judi Bowers, Area Manager for Next Gloucester Quays, said the retailer is “committed to evolving with the times and customer demand, and taking space in key outlet locations like Gloucester Quays, with its impressive selection of retail tenants, is central to this commitment”.
