New retail vision announced for Wembley Park

Four districts, 40 new independent shops and restaurants, and spaces for artists’ studios will transform Wembley Park in London into a major new destination as part of one of Europe’s largest urban regeneration projects.

The plans were unveiled by developer Quintain to some 200 commercial agents on Thursday 1 March in an event headlined by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The 85-acre site that surrounds the national stadium and next to the London Designer Outlet will be divided into four districts, including The Boulevard, The Village, the White Horse Square and The Park.

The 133,000 sq ft The Village will feature a curated mix of artisan independent retailers across 25 shops and restaurants, while the 76,000 sq ft Boulevard will be a destination for memorable retail and dining experiences with 21 units. The White Horse Square will be a cluster of convenience retailers, and The Park will feature a gym adjacent to a lake and grassy space.

The Village is expected to open from the end of this year, with The Boulevard opening planned for Autumn 2019, Quintain said.

“While greater use of social spaces is happening in pockets, such as Brixton, with individual cafes and one-off shops, Wembley Park puts this vision at the core of our ambition right across the site. This is one of the first times in the UK that shared spaces have been at the heart of the thinking on such a massive scale,” commented. Matt Slade, Retail Director of Quintain.

“We expect to attract footfall of over 20 million a year and a projected annual retail spend of £328m, which is more than Camden, London Victoria or Ealing Broadway. The additional retail and leisure space will help cement Wembley Park’s fast-growing status as an exciting new destination to rival the very best areas of London.”

The project will complement the current and proposed retail offers at London Designer Outlet, a fashion and lifestyle outlet centre hosting brands such as Nike, Guess and Gap.

Additionally, Boxpark Wemble will feature another 27 independent dining restaurants, bars and cafés when it opens in summer 2018.
