Construction on a new 270,000-square-foot Designer Outlet Village is set to begin this year on the southern edge of Grantham, where 130 retailers are expected to set up shop.

The plan for the £100m scheme, put forward by Rioja Developments and local property investment company Buckminster, was approved by Grantham Designer Outlet earlier this year

The Designer Outlet Village will be situated close to the A1, and offer “a totally different type of shopping experience” by combining heavy discounts with a luxury line-up.

The project also involves the creation of 1,800 parking spaces, a visitor tourism centre and landscaped public spaces.

“Grantham Designer Outlet presents a unique opportunity for premium brands to bring their outlet offerings to an affluent audience that currently lacks easy access to this kind of retail destination,” Giles Membrey, managing director of Rioja Development, told Lincolnshire Live.

"It is one of the last gaps in the market for a premium outlet village of this size and may well be the last of this style to be developed in the UK. We are very excited to be underway, particularly given the positive response that we are already seeing from brands."

Rioja Developments and Buckminster expect the outlet destination to attract 3.5 million visitors annually when it opens spring 2021. To make it more accessible, they plan to build a new junction on the A1 to connect to the new Southern Relief Road, and establish a bus service from the railway station.

Construction will begin on-site in 2018-19.
