Mr Porter launches vibrant summer collab with Tom Ford

Online men’s fashion destination Mr Porter has released the second installment of its “Hosted by” initiative, teaming up with iconic American luxury brand Tom Ford for an exclusive summer collection inspired by 1970s Los Angeles.

 
The collaborative capsule features 54 pieces, including 34 ready-to-wear pieces, ranging from pants, shorts and jackets, to shirts, tees and polos. The offering is rounded out by four sets of swimshorts, eight pairs of shoes, two belts, four pairs of sunglasses, a bag and a watch.
 
The collection combines vivid colors and retro floral prints to create a bright summer wardrobe ready for when traveling is possible again. The selection of pieces aims to provide looks for a full day of vacation activities, from morning swim right through to evening cocktails.

Headline pieces include a silk poppy-print bathrobe, floral silk pyjama pants, a light blue jacket in linen and silk, and a pair of woven leather espadrilles. The collection also offers a new Ocean Plastic watch with a pink strap, which will be exclusive to Mr Porter for four weeks following launch. Prices range from $340 for a cotton-piqué polo shirt to $7,790 for a suede blouson jacket.
 
Commenting on his inspiration for the collection in an interview posted to the Mr Porter website, creative director Tom Ford explained, “I was thinking, oh my god, what do we need right now? We need colour, flowers, pieces you can mix up together crazily. It was designed for the 25-year-old, 6ft 2in me who lives in Palm Springs or Mustique.”
 
When asked if the pandemic had influenced the capsule, the designer added, “to be honest, the collection is more inspired by my living in Los Angeles than it is a reaction to Covid. Colour looks different here. People dress differently here. They might wear an expensive item, but they’ll wear it with jeans or a sweatpant or something that brings it down.”
