John Lewis and Mother of Pearl have joined forces on a sustainable workwear collection for Spring 2020. The British department store said this is the most sustainable womenswear offering it has ever created.

“We are so proud of this collection, we truly believe there is nothing like this available for women on the high street right now,” said Jo Bennett, head of buying, womenswear.

Partnering with Mother of Pearl is a smart choice for the 155-year old retailer. Established in 2002, Mother of Pearl is part of a generation of designer brands that put sustainability at the centre of everything they do, injecting a contemporary edge into a segment that has been growing rapidly in recent years.

Led by Amy Powney as its creative director, the brand has shown at London Fashion Week and Copenhagen Fashion Week and its collections are stocked by prestigious global retailers including Net-a-Porter, Harrods, Neiman Marcus and Goop.

The Mother of Pearl x John Lewis collaboration reinterprets classic workwear codes with Mother of Pearl's design aesthetic and sourcing quality. This is the first time the brand will be available on the British high street, with prices ranging from £59 to £179.

“The partnership felt like a natural fit, both of our brands share similar values and ideals. Working alongside Amy Powney and her team, listening to their expertise and learning from their sustainable knowledge has been so important for us and we are looking forward to sharing all of this with our customers at launch. All of the pieces of the collection are designed to be loved and cherished - they really are forever pieces,” Jo Bennett of John Lewis continued.

Amy Powney, creative director of Mother of Pearl, added: “The opportunity to introduce a fashion led, sustainably produced collection nationwide is something I am very proud to be part of. Making beautiful pieces for the high street with the most sustainable fabrics and production is not an easy task, but working with the John Lewis & Partners team has made this a reality.

“I truly believe collaboration and joining forces is key to making long-lasting change, John Lewis are a company committed to sustainability, making them a perfect partner for Mother of Pearl’s first high-street collection”.

The collection launches at select John Lewis & Partners shops and on johnlewis.com in April 2020.
